Social and Environmental Education

Social and Environmental Education (SEE)

At St. Patrick’s De La Salle, Social and Environmental Education brings together History and Geography, helping pupils explore the past, understand the world around them and develop an appreciation of their local community and the wider world.

Exploring and Discovering

Through discussion, stories, maps, photographs and artefacts, pupils investigate how people lived in the past and how places and communities have changed. They explore different environments and cultures, developing curiosity and respect for others.

Our local area provides opportunities to connect classroom learning with familiar places, landmarks and the history of Kilkenny.

Learning Through Projects

Pupils regularly create projects to explore topics in greater detail and share what they have learned. These may include research, written work, artwork, models and digital presentations using our school Chromebooks and tablets.

Working independently and in groups, children develop skills in finding information, asking questions and presenting their ideas.

Caring for Our World

We encourage pupils to understand their role in caring for the environment. Through learning about litter, recycling and protecting natural habitats, children explore how everyday choices can make a positive difference to their school, community and the wider world.
