Coding Club

St Patrick’s De La Salle Coding Club

Our school’s afterschool Coding Club is open to pupils from 3rd to 6th Class and currently runs on Tuesdays from 2:40–3:40 p.m.

The club gives children an opportunity to explore technology, learn valuable programming skills and discover how the games, websites and devices they use every day work.

Using the school’s Chromebooks and tablets, pupils take part in fun, hands-on activities using Scratch, LEGO SPIKE and HTML. In Scratch, they create their own games, animations and interactive stories. With LEGO SPIKE, they build and programme models, exploring how coding can bring their creations to life. They are also introduced to HTML and learn how to create simple webpages with headings, text and images.

Along the way, pupils learn how to break tasks into smaller steps, give clear instructions and find and fix mistakes in their code. They are encouraged to experiment, test their ideas and keep trying when something does not work the first time.

The club supports creativity, problem-solving, logical thinking and teamwork. Pupils have opportunities to work independently and with others, share ideas and learn from one another in a friendly, supportive environment.

No previous coding experience is needed. Whether pupils are trying coding for the first time or already enjoy creating their own projects, the club helps them develop their skills and grow in confidence as young coders.
